The winery is 14 miles north of Napa, situated in the Rutherford growing district in the heart of the Napa Valley.
THE WINERY
Our state of the art, gravity flow winery was originally a barn constructed during the prohibition era. We began restoring the barn in late 1996, and completed the restoration in 1998. We then dug an underground barrel room in the valley floor, both for the natural humidity and temperature control that underground storage provides, but also to preserve the original low impact feel and charm of the original barn. Our grand opening of the new facility came with the 1999 vintage crush, with a total production of 2,200 cases.
THE LAND
The Sawyer family, which began making wine in 1991, purchased the original 40 acre Rutherford Vineyard in 1994. An additional, adjacent 10 acre parcel was purchased in 1998. Collectively, the vineyard is divided into 33 separate blocks based upon soil type, sun exposure, root stock and varietal.
